The Role

As a Senior Data Engineer at Bitly, you will be part of a seasoned data engineering team responsible for designing and building Bitly's next-generation data platform that powers analytics, experimentation, and AI-driven product features used by millions of users. You'll architect, build, and maintain infrastructure responsible for delivering data to our internal stakeholders as well as customer applications.

Bitly supports every country in the world and every platform imaginable. Our systems are built to process an enormous amount of data (billions of monthly events). To support our scale, our infrastructure consists of hundreds of servers, dozens of services, and numerous real-time data streams.

What You'll Do

  • Build and Optimize Data Services: Create well-tested, well-documented data services and improve existing ones—optimized for both traditional analytics and emerging GenAI/ML workloads. You'll be working with cutting-edge technologies to handle billions of monthly events.
  • Design Data Pipelines: Create efficient pipelines to move and transform data across our distributed systems. Design flexible internal and external APIs to expose our data to various stakeholders and applications.
  • Establish Standards and Governance: Set architectural and data quality standards, including comprehensive monitoring, observability, and governance frameworks to ensure data integrity and reliability at scale.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with leaders across product, data science, engineering, marketing, finance, and analytics teams to ensure on-time delivery of key initiatives that impact millions of users globally.
  • Event Tracking Support: Support our internal teams in maintaining and designing user tracking events that power our analytics and help businesses understand customer behavior.
  • Mentorship and Leadership: Mentor other engineers on best practices and implementation approaches. Champion a culture of continuous learning, technical rigor, and AI-first engineering practices across the organization.

Who You Are

  • Cloud Platform Expert: You have extensive hands-on experience in data engineering on cloud platforms (GCP preferred), with a strong focus on cost and performance optimization at scale.
  • Excellent Communicator: You are adept at clearly communicating complex technical concepts to both engineers and cross-functional stakeholders, making data engineering accessible to all.
  • Technical Mastery: You are an expert in SQL and Python, with deep experience in data modeling, optimization, and building reusable frameworks that scale across the organization.
  • Modern Data Stack Pro: You have a proven track record with modern data stack tools including orchestration (Airflow), transformation (dbt), streaming (Beam/Spark), and data processing (Dataflow).
  • Platform Operations: You're experienced in data platform operations including containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and implementing robust data governance practices.
  • Forward-Thinking: You're familiar with modern data paradigms such as lakehouse architectures, event-driven systems, and AI-centric data tooling that's shaping the future of data engineering.
  • Bonus Skills: Understanding of infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and backend service development (Go) are valued additions to your skill set.

💰 Compensation

$132,145 - $181,699
